Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a pole barn and a steel-frame building?
Pole barns (post-frame construction) use pressure-treated wooden posts buried in the ground or mounted to a slab as the main support. Steel-frame buildings use a rigid-frame “red iron” system. Pole barns are often more cost-effective and faster to build, while all-metal buildings offer maximum clear-span space and fire and wind resistance.
Do I need a concrete slab before you start building?
Not necessarily! One of the perks of a pole barn is that it can be built on dirt, gravel, or concrete. However, if you plan to use it as a workshop or garage, we recommend pouring the slab after the “shell” is up to ensure a tight seal against the posts. We can coordinate the concrete pour as part of your package.
How deep do the posts go into the ground?
To ensure stability and resist wind uplift, we typically set our posts 4 feet deep, though this can vary based on your height, wind rating and soil conditions. Each post is set on a concrete pad or encased in concrete to prevent shifting.
Can these buildings be insulated for year-round use?
Absolutely! C Level will gladly offer recommendations and customize your metal building, so you can fully realize this space you’ve been dreaming about.
What is "Clear Span," and how wide can my building be?
Clear Span means there are no interior support columns cluttering up your floor space. Our metal buildings can achieve massive clear spans (often up to 100+ feet), while pole barns typically offer clear spans up to 60–80 feet, depending on the truss design.
Are your buildings engineered for high winds and snow loads?
Yes. Every building we construct is engineered to meet or exceed your specific local building codes for wind gusts and snow accumulation. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all.—We build for the environment you live in. And, we’re locals. We understand and build for the harsh South Louisiana weather.
How long does the construction process take?
Once the materials arrive on-site, a standard residential pole barn (like a 30×40) can often be framed and sheeted in 5 to 10 business days. Larger metal buildings or those with complex features (like overhangs, porches, or mezzanines) may take longer.
Can I customize the colors and features?
You have full control. We offer a wide variety of colors for the roof, siding, and trim.
What kind of maintenance is required?
Very little! Unlike traditional wood-sided buildings, metal buildings don’t require frequent painting or staining. We usually recommend a simple annual wash to remove dirt/pollen and a quick check of the fasteners and gaskets every few years to ensure everything remains watertight.
